About Nicholas Commiato
I am a United States Coast Guard licensed Master Mariner currently serving as Master aboard the M/V ARC Integrity, a 72,118 gross ton U.S.-flag roll-on/roll-off vessel engaged in worldwide commercial and military transportation operations.
Over the course of my maritime career, I have progressed through every major deck officer position, serving as Officer Apprentice, Able Seaman, Third Officer, Second Officer, Chief Officer, and Master. This progression has provided firsthand experience in vessel navigation, bridge operations, cargo transportation, pilotage, regulatory compliance, safety management systems, crew leadership, and command-level decision making.
My operational experience spans North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Australia, and Asia, including some of the world's busiest ports, waterways, and traffic separation schemes. I hold a United States Coast Guard Unlimited Master's License, First Class Pilot License for the Galveston Ship Channel, and Master of Towing Vessels endorsement.
Throughout my career I have participated in major casualty response and investigation efforts, cargo damage investigations, vessel reflagging projects, United States Coast Guard inspections, Port State Control examinations, and military cargo transportation operations. I have also provided sworn testimony and participated in insurance and regulatory proceedings arising from maritime incidents.
Through Commiato Maritime Consulting, I provide consulting services related to maritime operations, navigation, cargo transportation, pilotage, vessel management, casualty analysis, and maritime regulatory compliance. My goal is to provide practical, real-world insight based on current command experience aboard actively trading commercial vessels.
Unlike many maritime consultants, I remain actively employed at sea, providing current operational knowledge of modern bridge systems, vessel management practices, regulatory requirements, and commercial shipping operations.
